Playing their third game in three days, the Collinsville High School boys soccer team could not record their third victory.
The host Christian Brothers College High School (1-0), ranked eighth in the nation by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, downed the Kahoks (2-2-1 overall, 1-0 Southwestern Conference) 4-0. It was the third consecutive CHS game in which the winning team recorded four goals.
CBC jumped out to a 2-0 lead less than 11 minutes into the game on two Kahoks defensive lapses. Senior forward Dave Geerling ran down a long pass behind the Collinsville defense and beat freshman goalkeeper Brett Niedzwiecki to get the Cadets on the scoreboard at the 3 minute, 48 second mark.
Eight minutes later junior forward Jake Meyerkord was among three Kahoks defenders when the ball fell at his feet. Meyerkord dribbled through the trio of defenders to get a one-on-one with Niedzwiecki, who was beaten to the far post.
CBC dominated possession throughout the game, forcing Collinsville, perhaps playing on tired legs, to chase them around the pitch. The Cadets third goal of the game came just under 10 minutes into the second half on another CHS defensive lapse.
Sophomore midfielder Niko Karidis dribbled through the defense and put a shot on goal. The rebound from Niedzwiecki went to Geerling, who knocked it home for his second goal of the game.
The Cadets final score came when Collinsville junior goalkeeper Roman Cahnovsky came way out of net to challenge junior midfielder Jake Bell, who had snuck behind the Kahoks defense. Bell crossed the ball to senior midfielder Max Keeley, who scored on a sliding shot in front of the net.
Collinsville’s next game is at 6:45 Tuesday at O’Fallon.
