Collinsville residents enjoying a picture perfect afternoon Friday were confused when the city’s emergency siren blared at 4:25 p.m. The confusion heightened when the alarm sounded again nearly two hours later.
The Collinsville Police Department announced on their Facebook page, shortly after the first incident, that the siren was malfunctioning. Some who posted on the site were clearly worried when the siren sounded again at about 6:15. “Could you update status. (sic) I’m at fifth and everyone is confused,” one person said.
The police department manually disconnected the siren Friday evening, according to their Facebook page. No reason was given for the malfunction and no estimate was provided for fixing the faulty siren.
An attempt to reach the Collinsville Police Department for further information was unsuccessful.
