Collinsville High School honors students of the month

The October and November students and athletes of the month at Collinsville High School were announced Monday.

Seniors of the Month

October – Kaitlin Carlson

Kaitlin won the National NFWL/NRA Scholarship Contest. The National Foundation for Women Legislators partnered with the National Rifle Association to present the contest.

Kaitlin was one of six winners in the nation. She won a $3,000 college scholarship and an all-expense paid, four-day trip to Philadelphia for the NFLW’s 2014 conference.

November – Thomas Boyer

Thomas was the Nutcracker in “The Nutcracker,” performed by the Turning Pointe Academy of Dance at the Wildey Theatre in Edwardsville this past weekend. He is also president of the National Honor Society and co-president of Amnesty Club.

Athletes of the Month

October – Abbey Burns

Abbey qualified for the girls’ golf Sectional and was named third team All-Conference.

November – Olivia Scaturro and Maddie Swiecicki

Olivia and Maddie qualified for State tennis doubles. The pair were also named second team All-Conference.

Students of the Month

October – Masen Kane

Masen took first place in the sophomore division at the fourth and final SWIC math team competition. He finished in second place in the first three contests.

November – Hanna Liljegran, Kassidy Smith, Caydren Jones and Ashely Burgess

Hanna, Kassidy, Caydren and Anhley have been members/officers of KAHOKstrong since the group began two years ago. They have worked diligently to make the organization successful through meetings, fundraisers and membership.

Most recently, these officers were instrumental is planning and organizing a successful cosmic bingo fund raiser to benefit KAHOKstrong. Because of their hard work, KAHOKstrong raised $4500 to benefit district employees, students and families during their time of need.
