CHS wrestlers take second place at Stagg Invitational

The Collinsville High School wrestlers finished second in the 12-team Stagg Invitational Saturday.

The Kahoks had two champions and three second-place finishers in the tournament, held hosted Amos Alonzo Stagg High School in Palos Hills, Ill. Patrick Grzywacz, at 113 pounds, and Zach Stephenson, at 152 pounds, took the top step on the podium Saturday.

The second-place finishers for the Kahoks were 106 pounder Jevon Pargo, Jacob Blaha at 126 pounds and Aaron Engle at 138 pounds. Other placers for CHS were Derron Miller (fifth place, 195 pounds), Zach Hammel-Brown (fifth place, 182 pounds), Jarod Estes (fifth place, 220 pounds), Jordan May (sixth place, 160 pounds), Adam Gillespie (sixth place, 145 pounds), Cole Zabala (sixth place, 132 pounds), Landon Chairs (seventh place, 285 pounds) and Zach Schaefer (seventh place, 120 pounds),

The freshman team won the 11-team Granite City Freshman Tournament Saturday. Russel March, Dennis Wallace, Chris Walker and Alfred McIntosh were tournament champions. Chauncey Lampkin and Max Miller placed second. Noah Martin, Dylan Hosier, and Juan Garth finished in third place.

The wrestling team will be back in action at 6 p.m. Thursday at O’Fallon. They return home Friday at 5 p.m. against Springfield, Mascoutah and Cahokia
