Collinsville Middle School baseball thumps Millstadt, moves on to final four

The Collinsville Middle School baseball team walked over Millstadt in the first game of the State Tournament, defeating the Panthers 16-0 in four innings Monday.

Heading into the State Tournament, Head Coach Josh Hartle said his team was led by deep pitching and a potent offense. The team was true to his billing in the first game.

Noah Scrum and Garrett Morski combined on the shutout. Each pitched two innings. Scrum struck out three and did not allow a hit. Morski surrendered a single hit over his two innings, striking out two and walking two.

Scrum, Zane Baker and Logan Whitehead had three hits apiece for the Trail Blazer. Baker was 3-3 with four RBI, two doubles, three stolen bases, three runs scored. Scrum was also a perfect 3-3, with a double, three runs scored and a stolen base. Whitehead drove in six runs on a 3-4 game, including a triple, three runs scored and two stolen bases.

The Trail Blazers move on to the final four of the Southern Illinois Junior High School Athletic Association State Tournament. They face Marion in a 3 p.m. game Wednesday in Centralia.

The winner will play the winner of the Wesclin, Carterville game for the state championship. The championship game will be played at 3 p.m. Thursday. The third place game will be played at 1 p.m. Thursday.
