Metro East Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes Oct. 4

Join hundreds of area residents in the Metro East Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes on Saturday, Oct. 4, at SIUe Parking Lot A for this one-day, signature fundraising event to benefit the American Diabetes Association.

The Metro East Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes, presented by Simmons Hanly Conroy, begins and ends in Parking Lot A of the SIUe Campus. The 1.5 and 3-mile walking routes consist of wide, flat, and partially shaded travel through the SIUe Botanical Gardens, accommodate strollers and wheelchairs and are leashed-dog friendly.

Check-in begins at 8:30 a.m. The walk begins promptly at 9:30 a.m. and the event is slated to end at 11:30 a.m.

This family-friendly event features a Kids Zone with jump house, face painting, musical entertainment, a martial arts demonstration, and appearances from Fredbird and Elsa from Disney’s Frozen. Grab-and-go breakfast items and fruit will be provided to all participants.

Walkers will have the opportunity to tell their story in the ‘Why I Walk Video’ for possible inclusion in a YouTube post. Sponsors will share information and host giveaways in the vendor area. Health care specialists will provide health information and screenings for A1c, blood glucose, cholesterol, blood pressure, and BMI determination.  Complimentary Team photos will be provided by Walgreens.
