Collinsville High School announced its Character Education students of the month for August. The character trait of the month was “be responsible: know and do the right thing.”

Students were chosen for their displays of responsibility. The winners were Timothy Aclan, Brianna Baker, Autumn Baumgartner, Jaiden Billings, Carlos Celso, Kerianna Cruz, Hannah Good, Zharya Hammock, Meredith Huffman, Brent Jones, Bryce Kelly, Christian Leahy, Eric Mora, Sarajane Nowman, Breanna Slaughter, Lauren Smith, and Destiny Thomas.

Tim Aclan

Tim is always prepared for class and completes his work thoroughly.  He always asks questions in class or after class if he doesn’t quite understand a concept, which I believe is a great trait for any student to possess. – Ms. Talisha Chambliss

Brianna Baker

Bri was assigned to be the student in charge of the book room during registration. She demonstrated excellent leadership skills and quickly learned the basics of the book room. This includes memorizing numerous items plus handling other students in such a way as not to appear “bossy” but get the job accomplished.  – Mrs. Christina Bell

Autumn Baumgartner

Autumn sits next to a student in my class with special needs and has been very helpful. Autumn has taken on this responsibility on her own.  When the other student is waiting for me to get to her, Autumn takes the time to help her out and keeps her working. This is the first time I have had Autumn in class and I appreciate her daily demonstration of responsibility. – Mrs. Emma Houshmand

Jaiden Billings

Jaiden found ten dollars during lunch in the cafeteria and turned the money in to the CHS administration.  The money was returned to the student that same day.  The other student was so appreciative of Jaiden’s actions.  As a school administrator, I was proud of Jaiden and would like to recognize his actions as a student of character. – Mr. Brad Hyre

Carlos Celso

Last week a student fell and was hurt. Carlos ran inside the CHS building to get help for the student. We think that is very responsible, and would like to recognize his actions as a student of character. – Mrs. Nicole Parris and Mr. David Snider

Kerianna Cruz

Kerianna regularly volunteers to tutor students during peer tutoring – and has offered to help this year. She is not even doing it for service hours. I have witnessed her helping many students with all subjects and especially math. She is patient, kind and willing take the time to explain over and over anything other students don’t seem to understand. She offers her help with a smile and never gets frustrated when students need extra help. – Mrs. Carla Elliff

Hannah Good

Hannah spent several days this summer delivering food and supplies to staff, and generally helping with registration. She has served in this capacity for several years and always approaches these duties with a positive attitude. I am always impressed by how serious she is about doing a good job and she really does make a difference for the staff during registration. – Mrs. Carla Elliff

Hannah volunteered for the Homework, Hoops and Help program over the summer so that she could give back to her community. Hannah is an asset to our community and very deserving of this award. – Mrs. Emily Breese

Zharya Hammock

Last week, Zharya noticed a family in a car that was catching fire. The family was having difficulty exiting the vehicle. Noticing their dire situation, Zharya jumped out of her mother’s car, opened their car doors and assisted the family in their escape of the vehicle. Her responsibility is exhibited by using her gifts of strength and speed when others are in a time of need. – Mr. TaRael Kee

Meredith Huffman

In addition to always helping students around her and volunteering to assist the teacher, Meredith has recently volunteered to help Mrs. Parris by forming relationships with the TMH students. She will be helping with social inclusion activities such as escorting and sitting with special needs students at pep assemblies and making sure that they make it to their bus following the assembly. I appreciate and applaud her actions at Collinsville High School. – Mrs. Barbara Lindauer

Brent Jones

Brent found a student’s wallet during lunch in the cafeteria and turned the wallet in to a cafeteria staff member.  The wallet was returned to the student with all of the personal items, including money and identification.  The other student was so appreciative of Brent’s actions.  As a school administrator, I was proud of Brent and would like to recognize his actions as a student of character. – Mr. Brad Hyre

Bryce Kelly

Through Bryce’s actions, he has raised thousands of dollars for childhood cancer.  Bryce’s annual charity event has not only helped awareness for a good cause, but has given financial assistance to help others in and around the Collinsville community.  His selfless dedication to this cause is inspiring and I would like to recognize his actions of character. – Mr. David Snider

Christian Leahy

Christian sets a great example with his work ethic in class, and he cheers on other students in class to do well, too. I would like to recognize his actions as a student of character. – Mr. Zachary Bilyeu

Eric Mora

Eric is our student worker and last week my knee totally gave out. He heard me and came down the hall and put my arm around his shoulder and got me back to my desk. I believe this showed great compassion and would like to recognize his action of character. – Mrs. Lisa Langenstein

Sarajane Nowman

Sarajane recently transferred into our classroom and, is not only caught up, but ahead on assignments, and knows the material. She is definitely a model of responsibility.  I appreciate her daily demonstration of responsibility and would like to recognize her as a student of character. – Mrs. Sarah McGinnis

Breanna Slaughter

Breanna is continuing to find ways to assist and support teen mothers/pregnant teens at CHS. She cares about keeping students in school and I appreciate her daily demonstration of responsibility. – Mr. David Snider

Lauren Smith

Lauren came in everyday during registration to help in the book room even though she was on crutches and had a knee brace. Most days she stayed for double shifts.

The fact that she could not manipulate very well did not stop her. She was able to finish all the barcoding on the rebound books, which numbered over 580 textbooks. She, also, quickly learned how to cover the journalism books, which I personally found to be a sticky endeavor, but she managed to do so expertly. Towards the end of the week, she did work the room, pulling books and helping students. – Mrs. Christina Bell

Destiny Thomas

Destiny assisted a student with physical challenges to a class who was lost in the building.  It is actions such as this that I am proud to witness from our student body at Collinsville High School and would like to recognize her compassion and responsible nature. – Mr. David Snider
