The William and Florence Schmidt Art Center has brought the works of three artists to southwestern Illinois this fall for free exhibitions of their unique art.

“With the wide range of artistic styles and media, there is something to interest everyone at this upcoming exhibition,” Curator Nicole Dutton said.
The artists’ works went on display Thursday, Aug. 28 and will continue through Friday, Oct. 3. The Schmidt is located on the Belleville Campus of Southwestern Illinois College, 2500 Carlyle Ave.
Artist Dan Rule returns to his hometown exhibiting “Object Lesson” – a number of his drawings, prints, animations and digital media pieces. His art often focuses on topics that are scientific and philosophical in nature. In addition to creating art that has been exhibited nationally and internationally, Rule teaches printmaking, photography and digital media at the University of New Orleans.
Champaign, Ill. artist Tammie Rubin will share her clay assemblages of fanciful objects – both familiar and alien – in an exhibition titled “Lingering & Longing.” Rubin, an assistant professor of ceramics and foundations at the University of Illinois, uses collected objects that are familiar to create mythical and fantastical works.
Rounding out the exhibition is “Color and Organic Form” by artist Terri Shay. Her paintings are meant to amuse, intrigue and foster curiosity and mystery through organic movement. Shay is an instructor at Saint Louis University.
The exhibition is free and open to the public.
