Gunshots in Collinsville don’t end well for convicted felon, fugitive

Reports of shots fired early Tuesday morning in the Northgate Housing Complex near Burlington Drive and Vandalia Street in Collinsville led to the arrests of two men.

Collinsville Police officers investigating in the 60th block of Burlington Street in Collinsville found Charlie D. “Unc” Johnson, 36, of Venice. Johnson was arrested in relation to an Aug. 2 robbery and carjacking on nearby Illinois Street. (see Collinsville carjacking fugitive captured)

Police officers also found illegal firearms, allegedly possessed by Jermaine Arvil James, 42, of the 60th block of Burlington Street. James was charged with a felony for unlawful possession of weapons by a felon and a felony for reckless discharge of a firearm.

Bond for James was set at $65,000. He is currently in custody at the Madison County Jail in Edwardsville.
