Richard D. Malone Jr., 35, of East St. Louis, was pulled over at the intersection of Illinois Route 157 and California Drive at 11:41 p.m. Thursday. Driving on a suspended license, Malone admitted to the officer that he had cannabis in his vehicle, Caseyville Police said.

Before he could be arrested, Malone fled the scene, nearly striking the officer with his car. The Caseyville officer gave chase and was joined by an Illinois State Police officer. The pursuit ended when Malone pulled over at the Intersection of westbound Interstate 64 and the 25th Street ramp in East St. Louis, Caseyville Police said.

Malone was taken into custody without incident. He was charged with felony aggravated assault on a peace officer with a motor vehicle, for nearly hitting the Caseyville officer, and two felony counts of fleeing/attempting to elude an officer.

Bond was set at $30,000 for Malone, who is currently held in the St. Clair County Jail.

Caseyville Police chased another suspect into East St. Louis on June 21. That chase ended with Tony D. Bogan, 26, of East St. Louis being tasered as police attempted to take him into custody. Bogan was charged with felony counts of unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle and aggravated fleeing and eluding.
