Collinsville Police sergeant graduates from the Southern Police Institute

On May 9, 2014 Sergeant Charles Mackin graduated from the Southern Police Institute, Administrative Officers course session 131 in Louisville, Ky.

The Southern Police Institute is a division of the Department of Justice Administration, College of Arts and Sciences, University of Louisville. It is an advanced education and training institute whose mission is to enhance the professional development of law enforcement practitioners.  It provides educational and career development programs that are designed to challenge and prepare law enforcement practitioners for the demands of today and tomorrow. The Southern Police Institute consistently is ranked among the top law enforcement educational and training schools in the nation.

The course lasted 13 weeks and officers that attend are required to complete a rigorous academic program. The officers also gain insight and knowledge from their stay in Louisville by the interaction with command level officers from around the country.

Sgt. Mackin completed the program and now resumes his role as a Patrol Sergeant. The knowledge he gained during this program will help enhance the professionalism of the Collinsville Police Department.

Sgt. Mackin has been with the Collinsville Police Department since 1989. He has served as a patrol officer, an investigator for the Metropolitan Enforcement Group of Southwestern Illinois (MEGSI), a Task Force Agent for DEA, a detective and now a patrol sergeant.
