Collinsville ace and University of Missouri recruit Tanner Houck will get at least one more opportunity to pitch from the mound he hopes to one day visit regularly as a Major League player. He and 52 other high school all-stars will take part in the fifth annual PNC Bank High School Baseball Showcase, to be held at Busch Stadium.

The showcase will give the players from Illinois and Missouri a chance to play an exhibition game on the field at Busch Stadium and in front of scouts. It is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, June 12.

A skills challenge is also scheduled for that day at 3 p.m. The planned events are a home run derby, speed challenge and throwing accuracy drill. Tickets for both the game and skills challenge events are free.

If Houck signs a contract following the  2014 MLB draft, held June 5-7, he will not participate in the showcase, his father, Darrin, said. Scouts were a regular fixture at CHS games this year when Houck was pitching. They sometimes numbered in the double digits and at least two teams sent their top national scout to see the 17-year-old throw his low 90s fastball and impressive array of breaking pitches.

Houck, who was 6-3 this season for the Kahoks, has already played a game at Busch this year. Collinsville beat Peoria Richwoods 8-7 at the home of the St. Louis Cardinals less than a month ago on May 18.

The Kahoks’ senior finished the season with a 1.72 ERA. Through 65 innings, he struck out 113 batters and walked just 17.
