A Morris, Ill. man faces charges for allegedly stealing the wallet of an 81-year-old man in the 500 block of Beltline Road in Collinsville on May 2.
A witness called 911 and followed Dustin J. Brandt, 31, in a vehicle when he fled the scene. Brandt later left his car and fled on foot, police said. He was tracked down within minutes by Macho the police dog.
When Brandt was arrested, numerous items of evidence were recovered, Collinsville Police said. The vehicle Brandt was driving was stolen and there were warrants for his arrest out of Wheaton, Ill.
On Monday, the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office charged Brandt felony robbery and felony possession of a stolen vehicle. Bond was set at $150,000 for Brandt, who is currently in custody at the Collinsville Police Department.
The robbery victim was treated at a local hospital for minor hand injures and later released.
