With one mighty swing of Kassidy Smith’s bat Saturday, she wrote her name in the Collinsville High School record books.

The sophomore belted her ninth home run of 2013, besting the single-season mark of eight set in 2011 by both Rachel Scrum and Hailey Jones. For good measure, Smith went deep again Saturday, to extend her record.

Smith now has 13 career home runs. Jones’ 15 is the career record at CHS. The softball Kahoks have 11 regular-season games remaining, so Smith may add the career mark to the single season mark before she begins her junior season.

The catcher, who Head Coach Cindy Kolda calls intelligent, hardworking and someone who prepares very well for games, came into the weekend hitting over .450 for the season.
