The Collinsville Kahoks, the now four-time defending Southwestern Conference girls soccer champions, are collectively The Metro Independent Athlete of the Week.
The Lady Kahoks defeated Granite City 2-1 Thursday evening to clinch a perfect 6-0 conference record (see game story).
Head Coach Clay Smith said winning the conference championship four consecutive years was a great accomplishment.
“Some of those seniors have had their name on that plaque since they were freshman,” Smith said.
Smith has never known a season as head coach without a conference championship plaque. The fourth-year coach has a combined record of 58-19-5 and was named the 2013 Illinois High School Soccer Coaches Association Coach of the Year.
