When the Kahoks lace up their skates and prepare to do battle against East Alton-Wood River High School, they will be attempting to take the first step towards the school’s first ever ice hockey championship.

The Kahoks (12-5-4) swept through the playoff rounds with a perfect 4-0 mark after finishing in third place in the MVCHA 1A East Conference. Collinsville scored 12 goals and surrendered only four during their playoff run.

Collinsville advanced to the championship round by defeating first-place Edwardsville 1-0 in a sudden-death shootout. Christian Brusatti beat the Tiger goalie in the 10th round of the shootout, then Kahoks goalie Kyle Bray stonewalled the Edwardsville shooter to send the Kahoks to the championship round.

East Alton-Wood River (7-12-5) finished in third place in the MVCHA 1A West Conference. The Oilers scored 26 goals and surrendered 17 while accumulating a 4-2 playoff record and advancing to play in the championship round.

The puck drops for the Kahoks and Oilers at 8:45 p.m. Monday. The teams return to action at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday and, if necessary, at 8:45 p.m. Thursday. All games are at the East Alton Ice Arena.

Ice hockey is not an Illinois High School Association sport and there is no state tournament. This is the championship for the Kahoks.

Collinsville is led by head coach Matt Bednara and All-Stars Cory Bean, Jon Bednara, Kyle Bray, Jacob Scrum, Jason Sperry and Cory Sperry. Other team members include: Scott Ledford, Felix Kocher, Brandon Harris, Jared Drake, Nicolas Hager, Jacob Bednara, Christian Brussatti, Kodee Keys, Caleb Nowicki and Kalib Carlyle.

There is a state hockey tournament in Illinois. I am not sure where you are getting your info from.

Thank you for your comment, “Guest.”

There is no IHSA state tournament. Perhaps I should clarify, because the AHAI hosts something they call an Illinois State Tournament.

The AHAI does not appear to have any member teams geographically below Kankakee, so it is interesting that they have chosen to call their championship round the “Illinois State Championship.” The “Northeastern Illinois Championship” would, perhaps, be a better name.

        Mr. Starkey –

I hope you do not take offense to this, but teams in your area are just not good enough to compete at that level. If they were, they would apply for the state tournament. If you look at this brackets, there are teams from all over the state competing.

My suggestion is to get this info to the necessary people.

        Thanks

Correction, Teams that are from the Southern part of the state are required to register with Missouri Hockey.

IHSA which stands for Illinois High School Association does not currently have hockey as a recognized sport.

Bold statements such as the teams are not good enough to compete just speaks loudly of the Chicago Arrogance. No offense intended.
