If, in the past 20 years, if you have been to almost all Collinsville High School girls and boys basketball games – varsity and junior varsity – as well as boys and girls soccer, softball, and sprinkled in as many volleyball matches as possible, your name is probably Pat Adams.

The 1956 CHS graduate was named the Super Senior Tuesday at the CHS boys basketball senior night at Fletcher Gym. Adams was almost in tears as she received a flower from Head Basketball Coach Darin Lee before Tuesday’s game to thank her for her dedication as a fan of Kahok athletics.

Adams can be found several times per week making her way around the Metro East, rooting on her Kahoks, always sure to wear purple and carry her portable seat to soften the blow of the Southwestern Conference bleachers. In a time when the empty seats outnumber the occupied at Vergil Fletcher Gymnasium, Adam’s can’t be tempted to stay home on a cold night.

“I want the kids to know that I support them, win or lose,” Adams said. Pointing to her arm, Adams said what many Kahok fans already know, “I have purple blood.”

After college at Illinois State University, where she played field hockey, basketball, and softball as part of the university’s extra-mural program, Adams began a 34-year teaching career, the majority in the East Alton district.  She helped create the field hockey program at SIUE and was the university’s first paid female coach. Adams also served as a referee for field hockey and basketball, officiating the national collegiate field hockey tournament multiple times.
