***Updated with confirmation from Maryville Police of the deceased’s identify***

Maryville Police have confirmed that Ron Rowden, a Collinsville High School Physical Education teacher and assistant boys soccer coach, has died.

Maryville Police responded to a call Tuesday afternoon of a possible suicidal person. Officers entered the home at 901 Andra Drive at 4:11 p.m. and found Rowden’s in the bathroom, Maryville Police Sergeant Brandon Ponce said.

Rowden appeared to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The death is being investigated as a suicide, Ponce said.

Collinsville Assistant Police Chief Tom Coppotelli confirmed that Rowden was the subject of an active investigation that involved a Collinsville High School Student. The investigation, for now, has been halted. “If there is information about someone else involved, we will investigate, but, with the subject deceased, there isn’t much more we can do with this investigation.” Coppotelli said.

Rowden was also the former head boys and girls soccer coach at Collinsville High School. During 12 years as the head boys coach, form 1989-2000, Rowden’s teams won two state championships and qualified for the state tournament four times.

As the head coach of the girls’ team, from 2006-2010, Rowden’s team compiled a 40-33-6 record.
