The Lady Kahoks brought the ball up court and found Thompson coming underneath her defender for the game-winning layup. It was her only basket of the game.

Collinsville’s defense held on the following possession and escaped the final game of the Mid-Winter Basketball Invitational in Carbondale with a 38-37 win over Mt. Vernon (9-7). Thompson knocked down two 3-pointers Friday evening to give the Lady Kahoks (6-11) breathing room in their 49-38 victory over Marion.

The Lady Kahoks finished 2-1 in the tournament, dropping the opener to Carbondale Monday before upending Marion Friday evening and Mt. Vernon in a game that tipped off at 10 a.m. Saturday. Mt. Vernon went 1-2 in the tournament, losing consecutive one-point games.

Aubreeney Brady was named to the All-Tournament team. Brady scored 17, nine and seven points, respectively, in each game, but was honored for her excellent defensive play as much as her offense, Head Coach Lori Billy said.

Kassidy Smith and Carlee Mahan scored eight points each to pace the Lady Kahoks in a game that was tight throughout. Collinsville was consistent, scoring nine points in both the first and third quarter, and eight points in the second and fourth quarter, before besting Mt. Vernon 4-3 in overtime.

The Collinsville scorers were: Smith-8, Mahan-8, Brady-7, Scheiter-5, Buettner-4, Morgan-4, Thompson-2
